Clarios to Acquire Ecobat’s US Recycling Facilities, Strengthening Domestic Critical Mineral Supply

Clarios plans to acquire three US critical mineral recovery and processing facilities operated by Ecobat, expanding its closed-loop battery recycling network and strengthening domestic supplies of recovered materials.

The facilities, located in California, Indiana and New York, collectively process more than 40 million batteries annually, recovering lead, tin, antimony and other materials for reuse in manufacturing. The proposed transaction also includes Ecobat’s Dallas office.

The acquisition will integrate the facilities into Clarios’ existing battery recovery network, which collects used batteries, recovers critical materials and uses recycled content in new battery production. The company plans to evaluate further investment opportunities to expand US recycling and processing capacity.

The deal is expected to close by early 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. It forms part of Clarios’ broader $6 billion US Energy Manufacturing Strategy, which includes a $1.9 billion commitment to domestic critical mineral recycling and processing.

The transaction is the final stage of Ecobat’s portfolio restructuring, following the sale of its European operations. It would transfer three additional US recycling facilities to Clarios as demand for domestically recovered materials grows.
